Album Info:These are part of a large collection of St Louis-San Francisco photos recently acquired. Most of these photos were small 2 1/2" x 4 1/4" size. The commonality is these 4-8-2's were all rebuilds from 2-10-2's by the Frisco West Springfield Shops in the 1930's on. Unfortunately, about half of the photos had no information about location, date or photographer.

Description:  Built from older 2-10-2 parts, this 4-8-2 Mountain type steam locomotive was reborn in the Frisco West Springfield shops in 1940. According to Jim Quarles in a 1996 article entitled "Those Magnificent, Distinctive, Homebuilt, Frisco Mountains" argues that about all that was left of the 2-10-2 in the conversion was the original builder's plate.
