Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5387 and another locomotive whose road number is not recorded. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics." #5387 was built in Juniata during June of 1924 and retired in December of 1955 after 31 years of faithful service.

Note the on-coming passenger train pulled by a pair of Pennsy "Pacifics."

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5823, a BP-60 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in March of 1947, rated at 3,000 horsepower for passenger service, later rebuilt into a 2,500 horsepower BH-50 for freight/helper/pusher service, and retired in September of 1962 after just 15 years of revenue service.

PRR 9479, FP-20, 1951
Description:
Harley. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Tom Harley that was taken at Union Furnace, Pennsylvania, in June of 1951. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9479 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both are FP-20's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #9479 was built in September of 1948, later regeared and reclassified as an FF-20, and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of service. In this context, this A-A set has just crossed the Juniata River and is passing under three-track Signal Bridge #2163 on its way to Harrisburg with Train #72, the eastbound "Juniata." ("PrrFan18n")

PRR 9815, EF-15A, 1951

Harley. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Tom Harley that was taken at Union Furnace, Pennsylvania, in June of 1951. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9815 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EF-15A's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9815 was constructed in May of 1951 and retired in November of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, this A-B-A set is on its way to Altoona and points West with a mixed-cargo freight train. Note the red tail-end marker light on Train #72 ~ the eastbound "Juniata" ~ that's just passed this location. ("PrrFan18n")
