Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9595 and two "Shark" B-units whose road numbers are not recorded. #9595 is a BF-16 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in April of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of service. On this misty morning, they're rounding the Curve on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to the Cresson Branch where they'll pick-up a fully-loaded mineral train and move it down "The Mountain" to the Altoona Receiving Yards. Notable here is the cabin car: it's the PRR's one-of-a-kind N-5E #477594 built in the ACS in October, 1929. Many thanks to Mr. Anthony Zinskie for identifying this car correctly. |
