Nearing the end of production of 2-6-6-6 Allegheny type steam locomotives built by the Lima Company is C&O #1653. It was delivered in October of 1948 only to be pulled and scrapped during the 1950's as diesels took the stage front and center. Specs - 67" drivers, impressive 260 psi boiler pressure, 22.5 x 33" cylinders, engine wt of 724,500 lb, impressive tractive effort of 110,200 lb. This is a C. W. Jernstrom photo. |
