SLSF 4-8-2 #1503 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco) |
Description: |
Here is a good view of the Baldwin 4-8-2 Mountain type steam locomotive built as SLSF #1503 in March of 1923 (serial #56267, T-54 class). In March of 1938, "streamlined" side boards were added to give the traditional loco a "fresh look" at a minimal cost. R.J. Foster photo |

Good looking Baldwin 4-8-2 built for the Frisco as their #1503 in March of 1923 (serial #56267, class T-54). The loco did not have the "streamlined" side blade until March of 1938 and it kept it for another 10 years. R.J. Foster photo |

Here is another view of the Baldwin 4-8-2 Mountain type locomotive built in March of 1923 as SLSF #1503. The "streamlined" side boards were added in March of 1938. One online source states "Throughout their careers, the 1500s were well liked by engine crews, dispatchers, and the motive power department. They were a true general-purpose locomotive, as well suited for use in hotshot freight service, fast passenger service, or even on the local." Arthur B. Johnson photo. |
