Shown here is the "Railfan Special to the Horseshoe Curve" ~ sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society ~ as it rounds the heart of the Muleshoe Curve. In the lead is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5899, an EP-22 built by GM-EMD in March of 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. |

All were built by EMD. #5902 is an EP-22 built in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5857 and #5859 are EP-20's built in 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. They're about to pass under the 12th Street Footbridge with a westbound passenger train and will soon stop to change crews, as well as to discharge and board passengers. The gray-colored building pictured in the center is the Railway Express Office; the two-story red-brick building to its left is the PRR's Freight Station. The silver-colored structure in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge; to its right is the 9th Street Footbridge. |
