VANCOUVER WA Oct 2 1978 -- Retired and unserviceable Burlington Northern RS3 BN 4028 basks in the sun and awaits its fate at the engine facility. Alco delivered the unit as Northern Pacific 858 in 1955 with builder’s number 81155. In March 1970, with the creation of Burlington Northern, it became BN 4082. It was retired in August 1978. Ot was involved in a grade crossing accident while still in NP paint. It was repainted to BN colors but a court ordered the accident be re-created so it was painted back into Northern Pacific colors. It was sold on Aug 1 1978 to Joseph Simon and Sons, Tacoma WA, and scrapped. (Roster information from research.nphra.org and locophotos.com) |
