Good Day. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1960. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9581, #9589-B, and #9706. All are rated at 1,500 horsepower. #9581 and 9589-B are BF-15's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1949, but #9706 is a BF-15A constructed by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in 1950. They're in the process of backing-up to couple onto the train they'll pull up the New Portage Branch line to Gallitzin and points West. The PRR's Samuel Rea Shop is visible in the background; adjacent to it are the old wooden water tower (the last vestige of the "Age of Steam") and several all-steel passenger cars on their way to be scrapped. This photo was taken near the Yard Master's Office, at the very eastern end of South Juniata Street. #6 of 12. |
