PRR Looking East at Jones Street, c. 1911
Old Time PRR. Here is a photo taken during the early 1900's from the middle of the westbound exit track in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, looking East toward the crossing at Jones & South Juniata Streets. Once upon a time, there were eastbound freights that came down the New Portage Branch, changed crews at Hollidaysburg, and then continued down the Petersburg Branch to points East. And once upon a time, there were westbound trains which came up the Petersburg Branch, changed crews at Hollidaysburg, and then continued up the New Portage Branch to points West. While in Hollidaysburg, some of these crews were housed in the two-storey building at the far left of this photo. Also visible (L to R) are the roundhouse, the water tower, and two wooden passenger coaches. William E Burket Collection.
