The highest-numbered locomotive on the Southern Pacific’s Texas & New Orleans subsidiary was F-1 class 2-10-2 999, shown here at AVONDALE YARD just west of New Orleans. The locomotive had been built by Baldwin in June 1919 as SP 3640 and was “sold” to the T&NO in December 1927, shortly after the SP received its SP-3 class 4-10-2’s. It was sold for scrap to Commercial Metals in Houston one year after this photo was taken. (approximate date of photo) |
