CB&Q E9 9994
Title:  CB&Q E9 9994
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E9 9994 westbound at Naperville, Illinois on December 8, 1964, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in August 1954 (c/n 19633), this locomotive became BN 9994 on March 2, 1970. It was sold to the West Suburban Mass Transit District and leased back to the BN on August 18, 1972. It was rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen during May 1973, returned as 9924, and was retired July 1992. On the left side of this photo is the East End Way Freight waiting for this Dinky (CB&Q term for commuter train) to clear. The way freight will back onto the main and cross over all three main tracks to work Moser Lumber, then continue east to work the other industries between here and Congress Park, returning to Eola later in the day.

On the left is E8 9971 leading Train #108 stopping at most of the local stations between Naperville and Chicago, arriving at Union Station at 7:46AM. On the right is E9 9994 leading Train #110, skipping all the local stations after Lisle and Belmont, stopping next at Cicero, then all the local stations until arriving in Union Station at 7:35AM. Both are daily except Saturday and Sunday dinkys (commuter trains). CB&Q E9 9994
Title:  CB&Q E9 9994
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E9 9994 eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on July 30, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. It is fortunate I had the presence of mind to mark the slide as "Girl Scout Special". I certainly would not have recalled that detail 40 years later. This locomotive was built in August 1954 (c/n 19633) on EMD Order 2065, became BN 9994 sometime after the March 2, 1970 merger, sold to the West Suburban Mass Transit District August 18, 1972, was rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen in May 1973, returning as 9924 and leased to the BN for operation.

It pulled commuter trains until July 1992. It appears that this man enjoys his work.
